Students and staff at Stockport Academy are celebrating today, after figures show the school has achieved its best ever GCSE results.
On first sitting, 57 per cent of students gained five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C – including English and maths.
That’s a significant increase on last year, once again making it one of the most improved schools in the region.
Among those collecting their results were Ben Murphy, who achieved 6 A*s and 4 As, Holly Battrick, who achieved 3 A*s and 6 As, Rebekah Etchells, who achieved 2 A*s and 7 As, and Rachel Smith, who achieved 2 A*s and 6 As.
Frank McCarron, Executive Principal of Stockport Academy, said: “Everyone at the academy is absolutely delighted with these results – our best yet and further evidence of the sustained improvement which the school continues to make.
“Students and staff have worked incredibly hard all year to maintain this momentum, so today’s results are a fitting reward.
“Congratulations to all of our students who are celebrating today.”
16-year-old Holly Battrick said: “I’m really happy with my results and didn’t think I’d do this well! I’ve tried really hard though but I was still really nervous last night.
“Now I can’t wait to celebrate with my friends!”
